The Celtic Cross is most popular pattern for tarot reading and probably the oldest.
As it was used by so many people over the years, strong energy has built up around this spread. Layout is simple, but powerful. Celtic Cross is found throughout Ireland, it has a circle in the middle which links four perpendicular spokes. Combination o circle and the cross symbolize unity of spirit and matter and all events in time.
The Celtic Cross spread is divided in two sections. First is Circle and Cross, consisting of six cards, on the left. Second part is Staff, consisting of four cards, on the right.
Circular section has feminine energy which works in unity with Staff’s section masculine energy. These two parts represent duality and polarities that are so abundant in human nature.
The circle part is built out of two crosses.
Central cross, made out of two cards, represents what is most important for you in the time of the reading. It is the heart of the matter, and the center around which the wheel of your life is turning.
The larger cross is made out of six cards, spread into two lines. Horizontal line shows the passing of time. Starting from the past on the left and ending with the future on the right. The vertical line shows moving from unconscious mind on the bottom, to conscious mind on the top. These six cards, when combined, give the snapshot of inner and outer environment of the Seeker at the time of the reading.
The four cards of Staff section give glimpse and comment of Seeker’s life outside of the immediate situation. They help to shed light on to what is shown in circle section, give guidance, advice and a peek in the direction of the future.
Tarot reading can give valuable insight and advice, if one is seeking with open heart and mind.
